Preservatives
Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) A versatile waterborne preservative especially effective for marine installations when treated to higher retentions. Also widely used to protect utility poles, timbers, foundation piling and light construction lumber. Wood treated with CCA is a light shade of green. Pentachlorophenol An oilborne preservative used primarily to treat utility and construction poles. Penta is an excellent preservative for timbers, lumber, foundation piling and fresh water piling. This treatment leaves the wood a light to medium brown color. Creosote A distillate of coal tar, it is the oldest, most widely known preservative. Creosote is used for applications such as railroad bridge ties and timbers, foundation piling, utility poles and marine piling or timbers. After treatment the wood is dark brown or black.
